EVALUATION ! - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product and looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
While constructing my project I worked with limiting technologies. This was the first time I had used a proffessional camera which meant I had to experiment with the settings and the way I used the camera. When using the camera in a dark area it automatically changed to make the image brighter. I had also never used photoshop before this project. For me this was a struggle as at first I found photoshop complicated to use. Through out my project I found that I could use different techniques to improve my image. For example I had to work out how to use the cropping tool to crop the main image for my front cover.
The prelimenary task helped me to prepare for my main project as this was the time I got to experiment with photoshop and using the technology. If I was going to do this project again personally I believe I could of planned my front cover thoroughly as I found making my front cover the most difficult. Although I believe I have made successful progression.

EVALUATION ! - Who would be the audience for your media product & how did you attract/address your audience?
For my project I have created character profiles of what my target audience would look like further down on my blog.

For my target audience I wanted to appeal to both genders. I aimed my magazine at working class people. I did this by having the price of magazine at £3.00. I chose my price by researching existing magazines. At my audience research I asked closed questions in the form of a questionnaire. I recorded my results by making pie charts.
I also asked some open questions in the form of a questionnaire. I prefered the closed questionnaire as I got precise answers and I felt some of the audience did not answer my open questionnaire clearly. I have recorded my results.
I also asked open questions in the form of an interview.

EVALUATION ! - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
During my project I researched what company might distribute my magazine. I decided to look at the Bauer website.

These are the largest privately owned publishing company in Europe. I believe that these would distrbute my magazine because as an editor I would trust Bauer Media Company to get the sales I need. I would place my magazine in the women's category although at this moment in time they do not distribute music magazine's in this category. The reason I would put my magazine in this category is because personally I believe most of my audience would be the female genre. I would not put my magazine in the Men's category as these magazines are more on the side of the rock genre.

EVALUATION ! - How does your media product represent particular social groups?
As I have been creating my media project I have been researching existing magazines and magazines from the past. For my project there could be a slight controversy about the way I have presented my model. This could be because it is a typical musical pose for a front cover of a magazine as she is holding a microphone. Although I have not intended to do this. In the 1990’s women were starting to get their power. Before this our country was set to their traditions as men were more powerful and was in control. There are never any discussions on the representation of men. Women were treat differently. As the 90’s approached there were a group of women starting to appear and got the name feminists. These are women that believe in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. On the front of magazines women were starting to be shown as more masculine rather than feminine. People could argue that the traditions were still alive as they were trying to show women as men.
Nowadays women are seen differently as we are living in a post-modern society. On the front of magazine covers women are represented as feminine although there are still debates on the way women are shown. The stereotype of a model is they have to be the size zero look. This is making young girls all over the world starving them selves to look like these girls. Some celebrities are pushing the industry into using bigger girls as models but we still are seeing these skinny models taking over the shelves. Although we always see celebrities trying to diet to become skinnier. Feminists are still around today fighting for full equality between genders. Some women are so set on their ways they start acting masculine. Men are supposed to have a physical presence when they enter the room. For example having bulging muscles is meant to be pretty.
Notably different genre’s and different celebrities see genders in slightly different ways. For example my genre I chose which was pop is not dominated by men unlike other genre's of music. In the pop genre men are bothered are about their appearance. Celebrities in the pop genre need to look good.
For my project I have not chose to make my model fit with the stereotype as personally I think the size zero look is wrong. I wanted my magazine to appeal to both genders not just one. I also believe that I have embraced the convention about genders for my genre. I have done this as I think this is what looks good for my magazine. I personally believe that women will never be truly equal towards men as the royals today still have the tradition that men are powerful and they are the rulers of the country. Should everyone follow this?
Overall feminism believes that men control the media and use women as sex objects. The post feminist view was that the women make their own decision and control their own destiny. The advert for the perfume poison with the actress Sophie Doll started the controversy of the feminist view. One women that is important is Naomi Wolf as she believes both sides of the arguments and can understand both points. Personally I believe women do make their own decisions in life.

Before making my front cover !
Originally when making my front cover my colour scheme was going to be orange and black. I decided to experiment with fonts to see which one would be best.
After making these fonts I decided I did not like the colour scheme as it did not fit with the genre of my music magazine so I decided to use blue and black instead.

Photography !
I am in the main stages of making my music magazine here are pictures which I have decided not to use.
Even though this photo is positive because it is at a good angle as it is a close up but on usual music magazine covers the model is normally looking directly into the camera.
I really liked this photo as it looked like an action shot but when blown up the photo goes blurry.
I also had positive thoughts about using this in my music magazine but the hair was covering her eyes which would not be good for the audience as they would not be drawn in.

Competition !
When making my magazine I must think of the competiton for my magazine.
Personally I think the smash hits magazine will be a competition as I am doing a pop sub genre.

Research - DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD !
Before making my music magazine I am going to research double page spreads of exsisting magazines to give me some inspiration.
This is the first double page spread I am going to look at for my research. On this double page spread the image is the main focus with hardly little text. For my project I could not choose this option as it has to be two pages of text. For this double page spread they have decided to do an article about the band whether Will - i - am will go solo. For the image they have blurred three members and kept Will - i - am bright and in normal colour. This is to represent that he is the main focus. The title of the article is written in a robotic style font which links to the bands personality as there new album is very robotic. The main colours used on this double page spread are brown's & beige's. This could imply mystery.

As the rolling stones is an iconic magazine the readers are still aware what magazine it is because the font is the usual font used. The background of this front cover is black and uses the headline "The Dark Side of Pink". This suits the background as the connotations of black are dark & also danger. On the image on the front cover Pink is looking directly into the camera which would attract the audience into buying the magazine. Pink is holding her leather jacket to give her a "hard" looking image which thinks to the headline. The title of the magazine is the colour red which could also represent danger.

The usual Q logo is placed in the corner of the magazine to show the reader the make of the magazine. Take That are the main image which is also the main focus on this cover. They are having a pile on and are all smiling and laughing to represent the happiness of them back together as a group. They are all wear black leather jackets which could imply danger which contrasts with the innocence of the background. Wearing black leather jackets could also imply that it is not all smile's and laughter within the group and have hidden issues.

Character Profile !
When making my music magazine I had to decide who my target audience would be. To get this perfect I decided to make character profiles and get in the minds of members of my target audience. Also doing this would make my music magazine seem more relistic.
Character Profile 1 - The female audience !
- I would expect them to love hanging out with their friends and having a good laugh.
- I would expect them to shop in River Island, Topshop, New Look.
- When they went on holiday I would expect them to love sunbathing in the sun.
- I would expect them to get along with their family & appreciate everything.
This is what I would expect my female audience to look like.

Sub Genre !
Over the past few weeks I have had to decide what sub genre I am going to make my music magazine. I have decided to do the sub genre of pop. I decided to do this as this is the type of music I would listen to myself so in my opinion I think it would be easier to create my music magazine if knowing about the sub genre.

Section 1 - The Introduction
What I have learnt from this task
This was the first time I had used photoshop so this was a challenge for me to work out how to use it. As this was the first time I had produced a magazine like this I had to take time to look at other work to influence me on layout but also my photography which I used.

Section 1 - The Introduction
This was one of minor changes I decided to change. For my two images on the right of my magazine I decided to put black borders around them to make them stand out and to add a little extra to the magazine cover.
Another change I did was:
I decided to change the main image I used, I did not use my original idea as it was difficult to cut out and make the edges smooth in photoshop.
While making my magazine I experimented with different fonts. In my original idea I wanted the main title and the article title to be different fonts. Although in my opininion I thought my magazine cover looked more proffessional having these two titles the same font.

I have learnt in my lessons that layout is a vital part of making my magazine. In proffessional magazines there are hardly any blank spaces as blank spaces waste money for the company. Although a magazine does not want to be too crowded or it can start not to look realistic.

What makes a good photograph?
In my opinion I think that a good photograph should have good quality and should not be blurred. For a front cover of a magazine I think the photograph should be a medium shot but for the other photo's I think they should be a variety of shot types as this is what would hit the criteria.
This was my original choice for my front cover for my school magazine as this was a good photograph with having good quality and it was also a medium shot.

First Task
For our first task we were told that we are going to have to make a school magazine. We are going to have to make 2 pages a front cover but also a contents page. We have been told that were going to have to see exisiting blogs to help us make decisions on how to make our magazine's.
